I'll be flying AA ORD-DUB (763) and LHR-ORD (772) in June. When you go to the entertainment section of AA's website it says that they are transitioning from an analog based entertainment system to a digital AVOD system on thier 777s. I was wondering whether anybody had a list of which of AA's 777s had AVOD and which didn't. Also, am I correct in thinking that the 763 uses projectors for the bulkhead video screens.

Just flew ORD-LHR and LHR-ORD this past week on 777s in Y. All seats on both aircraft had AVOD (sort of). It's not pure AVOD, meaning you can start any show or movie you want at any time. If you want to start watching something, you can pick up the showing already in progress, or you can wait until the next showing starts. It's a pretty intuitive system, and works well to while away an 8-hour plus flight. (I love the So '80s audio channel the best though.)

The new system on the T7 is on demand in first and business, "near" on demand in Y. Although you have to wait for the next showing as the poster above said, the shows start every 30 minutes so you don't have to wait very long. There are also several games on the new system, something the old one lacked.
The 763s new entertainment system still features main cabin screens, but all projectors have been replaced with LCDs. The CRT screens further back in the cabin still remain.
As for the 777s, the following a/c nose numbers are the planes that have been converted. All but 10 of the T7s have the new system as of today (Monday, May 12).

One way you may be able to check online if the a/c you are flying on has the new system or not is the J-class seat map. The new video system is being installed when the a/c go in to get the new J-class seats. If you see 37 seats in J-class, then it has the new system. A side note, the "Pacific" fleet was the first to get the new J-class and AVOD, and consequently, also got Flagship Suites to replace the old coffin style seats in First. Now, there is no difference between the Pacific and Atlantic fleets and they have finally been completely standardized. All 20 a/c that made up the Pacific fleet have been completed, 17 of the 27 Atlantic a/c have been completed.
Although we still refer to the a/c as "Pacific" or "Atlantic" for clarification, the company no longer uses that designation and the a/c are no longer dedicated to any route as they have all been standardized.

Question is, when will they start to reconfigure the 757/762s? From what I have seen the 757 is getting two more J class seats, as well as removing the middle galley, and new LCD screens. And the 762 is getting one more F seat, and new LCD screens as well. I know they have one 762 with the new AirCell product, but I think it is in a test run right now.

Never heard of this sort of system... how exactly does it work? And do any other airlines have it?

Here is how I understand it. There are multiple channels to chose from, but you don't get to chose when a program starts, but you can join it at any time. Like regular TV. If I understand it correctly continental uses it (at least on their 767s)

Imagine yourself watching TV at home without Tivo (or any other DVR). If you're tuning in to watch (yikes, I can't think of anything of TV at the moment: how sad is that?) American Idol on Tuesday night at 8:00 p.m., but you don't get home until 8:05 p.m., you don't get to watch the first 5 minutes of the show. Rather, you start watching at the 8:05 p.m. mark. That's the same way AA's AVOD system works. It does run on a various loops, so the wait is typically about 15 minutes before the next showing of that program starts. For any show/movie, on your AVOD screen, you can select "Join in progress" (and it also displays how many minutes it has already been showing), or "Wait until next showing" (and it lists how many minutes you're going to have to wait). So, it's not true-AVOD (on demand), but pseudo-AVOD. Nevertheless, it's much better than being forced to watch whatever AA tells you to watch on the big screen.

As my friend in Atlanta says, it was all that and a big 'ol bag of chips. Especially when your original flight to LHR is going to be delayed until the next morning, and you've been lucky enough to get put onto the last flight of the night to LHR, but are stuck in Row 45, Seat F (to save time for those of you who don't want to go to seatguru.com, that's the very last row of the 777, center section, middle seat). I don't think there can be a worse seat on that plane. (Oh, and did I mention the crying baby in the row in front of me?) So '80s saved my life that night!

That is all correct. In addition, on the 757, the closet behind first class, in front of the 2L lav, will be removed. This a/c will be getting the same Panasonic eFX digital file server system as the 763s for audio/video. On the 762s, the First class seats will be replaced with the lie flat seats that used to be on the 763s (when they were three class) plus the one extra seat as noted. The center closet/galley complex in first will be removed, and the Panasonic eFX system will be installed on this a/c as well.

I believe the 762s are nearly complete receiving the AirCell product and last we heard, they hope to take it live (for passenger use) later this month. I don't know if that is still the plan, however.
